On Labour day:Salutes essential service providers engaged in fight against COVID-19
Jammu May 01: 1st May is celebrated as the International Labour Day or workers day an occasion to commemorate the contribution of workers and the historic labour movement in building the world that we live in today.
National Conference Senior Leader and former MLA from Ganderbal Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar in a statement said that workers day this year is not an occassion to greet workers as they are without food and work amid the lockdown and hoped that the workers who were stuck in different parts of country will reach home safely.
Mr Jabbar said that this Labor Day, remember to salute the determination and hard work of countless workers who have kept the global economic engine running despite being hit the hardest by the COVID-19 crisis.
"I Salute to all the warriors who are working tirelessly, may this pass soon and may there be peace, peace and peace", Jabbar said.
While standing with the frontline workers – employees of all essential services and those in the health sector doing their best for the populace in difficult times, demands from the government to clear the wages and salaries of economically weaker section of employees especially daily wagers , contingent paid employees, causal labours, seasonal labours, HDF employees to save their families from starvation at this difficult time,” Jabbar said while urging the government to regularise their services.
He said majority of these employees are serving the people at this difficult time and are fighting COVID19 by putting their lives at risk when everybody is under fear, Jabar further said.
Mr Jabbar further said that Govt has approved a Rs350 crore relief package but has left out transporters especially passenger transport and tourist taxi operators.
About 85 per cent the transporters are small operators who are in abject penury and are unable to sustain their financial obligations to their stakeholders and families as well, adding that the worst is yet to come when all statutory obligations are to be met and paid in advance in light of no income source.
He demanded that Govt should also include tourist Taxi operators and passenger transport of J&K as they have suffered the most and must be included in the financial package like houseboat and shikarwalls, ponneywalls and others announced yesterday by Governor Admintration.
