Poonch, Apr 25: (GNS) The migrant labourers stranded at Mendhar, Poonch on Saturday staged protest demanding food “for survival”.
They appealed the district administration to provide them ration and other essential items.
“We are left with no food,” a labourer told GNS. “We had packed our bags with the hope that we will return home, but the lockdown extension made us stay back.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a televised address to the country on April 14, extended the national lockdown till May 3.
Most of these workers hail from Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. “We thought the lockdown will be over on 14th April and we will go home. We are frustrated now. We need food for survival,” they said.
Later, Tehsildar Mendhar Dr Vikram Kumar along with Naib Tehsildar Ashfaq Ahmed Fani reached out to migrant labourers and assured them of every possible help. (GNS)
