Excise Commissioner playing with the lives of staff, allege employees



Srinagar, Apr 30 (KNO): Amid COVID-19 Pandemic, the employees of Jammu and Kashmir Excise Department today alleged that they are facing intimidation and harassment at the hands of their superiors by asking them to come to office even during the lockdown.

Interestingly, Sales tax and Excise departments operate from a same building. The employees said that they are being asked to attend the duties even during this lockdown even when the Excise department was not in the list of essential services.

They told news agency—Kashmir  News Observer ( KNO), that they approached Excise Commissioner number of times with a request not to compel them to come to office during lockdown period even when Excise department was not in the list of essential services.

They said that they have to go to the office by foot as their is no public transport available due to the lockdown, thereby making them suffer immensely.

They also said earlier, the sales tax department was sealed, as one of the employees was suspected of having contracted the virus.. "Our office is also located in the same building, however, our senior officers still force us to attend duties, thereby risking our lives as there is threat of contracting the virus," they said.

They said that they have also not been provided PPE kits, masks and sanitizers which makes them vulnerable of contracting the virus.

The employees said that two of their colleagues(excise department) have been now put under quarantine have met other employees too poses threat to whole areas where we visit as Covid-19 probable which has created fear among all of us as we are prone to get COVID 19 because Excise Commissioner is sending four teams comprising of 4-6 members each to go open the closed shops to verify there stocks in the presence of owner/manger of shop during all this many people assemble seeing the wineshop shutter open.

They said that they have already sent a memorandum to Lt. Governor, Chief Secretary and other officers but no action has been taken so far—(KNO)
